There is a dangerous road in Suffolk county and everybody knows about it — including the government.
A curve in the road at the intersection of South Country Road and Montauk Highway in the town of Brookhaven has claimed the lives of three people in three years, most recently in July of 2017.
Area residents and businesses are growing increasingly frustrated with the town and county for not doing something to stop the carnage. Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning told the media that she would “reach out” to the police in order to “mitigate” the speed of drivers on the road. That response did not sit well within the neighborhood, where residents want a stoplight installed.
For now, the only thing that can be done is to drive with extra vigilance on that road — and other dangerous roads on Long Island such as these:
Suffolk County
Middle Country Road (also known as Route 25 and the Jericho Turnpike)
- Sunrise Highway
- Route 110
- Wicks Road
- Nassau County
Jericho Turnpike (also known as Route 25 and Middle Country Road)
- Hempstead Turnpike
- Sunrise Highway
- Merrick Road
If you or someone you know was injured on these, or any other, roads, call 1-888-GOT-HURT.
